About Me

Before becoming a canine behaviour consultant, I worked in early years education for 25 years in a local authority nursery. I hold a BA (Hons) degree in Early Childhood Studies and Curriculum Practice. I focused on understanding each child’s individual learning style through careful observation and adapted the curriculum to meet their needs. This experience taught me how important it is to look at each individual carefully and respond to their needs, personality, and unique way of learning, something I now carry through into my work with dogs.

I’ve always shared my life with dogs and got my first, a Border Collie named Cass, when I was 13.  Over the last 42 years I’ve owned many dogs, mainly working breeds, and have also bred Collies and Spaniels, so I understand their instincts, drive, and sensitivity well. I currently share my life with Meg, my Springer Spaniel, who continues to teach me something new every day and constantly reminds me of the importance of patience, understanding, and seeing each dog as an individual.

My lifelong interest in canine behaviour led me to complete a degree in Animal Behaviour, as well as a Level 6 Advanced Diploma in Canine Behaviour and a certified Diploma in Dog Training. These studies inspired me to start my own business as a canine behaviour consultant, combining science-based knowledge with empathy, careful observation, and real-world experience.

I have also worked with Northumbria Police as a Canine Welfare Visitor, helping to promote the welfare and ethical training of working police dogs as part of an initiative led by Dogs Trust. This experience strengthened my commitment to ensuring that all dogs, whether companion animals or working partners, are treated ethically, with respect, compassion, and understanding.

In addition to my consultancy work, I deliver webinars for The International School for Canine Psychology (ISCP) in their student hub, where I share knowledge and practical insights to help students deepen their understanding of canine behaviour and welfare.

My ethos is centred around kindness, understanding, and viewing each dog as an individual – supporting both dogs and their guardians to build trust, improve communication, and create calmer, happier relationships.
